Abstract

Professionalism essentially is a pathway to success in any field in the modern world. Professionalism is interlocked with knowledge, skill, autonomy of decision making, strong commitment and motivation. Along with the understanding of the key word management, the functions, roles & responsibilities of Board of directors, Chairman are important facets. The other area that requires attention is “leadership” on which the other factors are dependant. While discussing professionalism with regard to co operatives it is incomplete without the mention of 97th Constitutional amendment. This amendment laid emphasis on the professional management in the co operative sector. This farfetched amendment also has been the reason for various changes implemented in the co operative legislations in most of the states of India, among which Karnataka is focussed as a part of this article. Karnataka co operative societies Act 1959 has been amended and the 97th Constitutional amendment has been incorporated in the very preamble itself in the legislation specially with respect to professional approach to the management of co operatives.
