Abstract

A new family of condensed hydrated lithium cobalt penta phosphate (LiCoP5O14·H2O) crystals were synthesized by hydrothermal technique and characterized by X-ray diffraction method. The compound crystallizes in monoclinic system with space group P21/c and cell parameters a=10.788(4) Å, b=9.761(3) Å, c=9.788(5) Å, β=101.249(1) Å, Z=4, exhibiting layer type polymeric structure. DTA study indicates that this compound has low thermal stability and magnetically frequency dependent paramagnetic behaviour.
