Abstract

The development of a nation depends upon the income of women also. As Women is the backbone of any economy, primarily shaping future of the country. Since India opened its doors to liberalization in the early 1990s there has been a steady change in India's economy. Self-reliance helped to build great institutions of learning and taking strides in various field of life in keeping pace with the rapidly changing modern world. Women have moved away from their orthodox roles of homemaker and child rearing to social and business areas. The liberalization policy of the last 15 years is caused good results. The garments, textiles and leather sectors have flourished as a result of liberalization policies of the government. In the same way information technology (IT) sector has emerged and now India is among the top IT sectors in the world. It has become a major centre for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO). The growth of business has given excellent opportunities to women to think beyond the four walls of traditional behavior. The studies suggests that appropriate steps must be taken by employers or persons in charge of workplace, public or private sector, to ensure safe working atmosphere for women. Appropriate work conditions must be provided in respect of work, health and hygiene to further ensure that there is no hostile environment towards women at workplaces. If we want to see a society imply enacting laws is not sufficient. Everyone should understand that and women and men are equal and try to bring change in the social system.
