Abstract

This study explains and reviews speech act theories, apology speech acts, and various strategies of apologies because apologizing occurs in a complicated way in both a second or foreign language and the way people apologize in different languages is significant in order to perceive the difficulties of language. People apply apologies for different reasons such as making a repair for an offense, and maintaining a good relationship with the addressee. Apology is an expressive illocutionary act and a social act which can be helpful for keeping agreement between the speaker and hearer.
