Abstract

This paper provides an overview of a comprehensive exploration of the Ukraine-Russia conflict through the lens of international law. It begins by introducing the context of the conflict and the 1997 treaty between Ukraine and Russia. The political and economic landscape of Ukraine is discussed, followed by an examination of the conflict's origins, with insights into the post-World War II and post-Cold War dynamics. The impact of the Ukraine-Russia conflict on international business and the world economy is considered, along with efforts towards peace talks between the two nations. The role of international law is highlighted, encompassing aspects such as international armed conflict, non-international armed conflict, the United Nations Charter, war crimes, and individual responsibility. The reactions of the European Union and the declaration of intervention by New Zealand are examined. The roles played by India and NATO in the conflict are explored, with a specific focus on NATO's approaches to Russia and its role in Ukraine. The article concludes by emphasising Russia's challenge to the UN and international order, the significance of Ukraine's Supreme Court, and the role of the International Court of Justice in addressing the complex Ukraine-Russia dispute
