Abstract

A novel method has been developed to determine the whole-atom integral incoherent scattering cross section of elements by measuring the total attenuation cross sections of their simple oxides in a good geometry setup using a well-type NaI(Tl) detector. In this paper, results for Pb, Ba, Cr and O obtained at 661.6 keV energy for Cs-137 gamma rays are reported, compared with the interpolated values of Hubbell et al. J. Phys. Chem. Ref. Data 4 (1975) 471], and discussed.
