Abstract
The literature indicates that chromosomal analysis of Indian bats is limited to gross morphology, diploid number and in a few instances to meiotic behaviour (Pathak 1965, 1966, Manna and Thalukdar 1965, Ray-chaudhuri et al. 1968, 1971, Pathak and Sharma 1969, Bhatnagar and Srivastava 1974, Dutta 1977). There is hardly any information regarding the nature and distribution of heterochromatin in the Indian bats since no attempt has ever been made to employ banding techniques. The present study deals with a detailed account of the chromosome complement and the linear differentiation of chromosomes in Megaderma lyra.
