Abstract

The mass absorption coeffs., μ, for 0.430, 0.765, 1.17, and 1.71 MeV β-particles were detd. in Al, Cu, Ag, Sn, Au, and Pb absorbers using a plastic scintillation β-detector. The dependence of absorption on the end point energy (E) of the β-particles and the at. no. (Z) of the absorber is studied and an empirical relation of the type μ = 0.0061 E-1.23Z0.366 E-0.069 is obtained. A comparison of the value of μ based on this relation with the available measured and calcd. values is made and discussed. [on SciFinder(R)]
