Abstract

The kinetics of oxidn. of leucine, serine, glutamine and glutamic acid by 4-MeC6H4SO2NClNa or Chloramine-T (CAT) in presence of HClO4 at 30° showed first order dependence each on CAT and amino acid and inverse 1st order with H+ ion. Ionic strength and presence of the added p-toluenesulfonamide have no effect on the rate. Chloride ion catalyses the reaction. A mechanism in which the zwitterion interacts with protonated CAT has been proposed to account for the kinetics. [on SciFinder(R)]
