Abstract
Biosorption experiments were carried out in batch process and the parameters like pH, contact time, size variation, adsorbent dose and metal ion concentration were optimized. Maximum percent removal of Ni (II) ions in the aqueous solution was 96.95 at pH 6 and contact time of 40 min. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were applied to describe the equilibrium data. Kinetic models like Pseudo first order and Pseudo second order fitted well for the biosorption process. The results showed that the leaves of Araucaria cookii can efficiently remove Ni (II) ions from the aqueous solution and also from the Metal plating wastewater. Hence it can be used as a low cost biosorbent
