Abstract

Economic development, economic growth and economic welfare of the country and wellbeing of the people are the major debating issues in each and every economy. Sericulture is one of the most labour intensive sector is combining the activities of both agriculture and sericulture industry. India is ranked as the second major raw silk producer in the world. It is practiced in about 53514 villages all over the country. It provides employment to about 6 million people, most of them being small and marginal farmers or tiny and household industry mainly in rural areas. The main objective of the study is to analyze the income and employment generation in sericulture industry in general and in sericulture farmers in particular and to know category wise employment generation in sericulture industry. The results of paired t test to show the difference in the income generation between before and after joining to the sericulture activities. Since the probability value is 0.000 the result is significant at 1 level of significance, which means that there is a significant difference in the income generation before and after joining to the sericulture activities. It means that after joining to sericulture the income of the respondents has increased.
