Abstract

The mutagenic effect of chemical on two mulberry silkworms through specific locus test was studied. The carbamate pesticide, dithane-M-45 which is commonly used in sericulture was employed in the present experiment to test its mutagenic effects on two silkworms namely, bivoltine NB4D2 and multivoltine Pure Mysore races. Different sublethal concentrations of 50, 100, 200, 400 and 800 ppm of the chemical was orally administered to early and late V instar Larvae. The results of mutation frequency in pe and re loci have indicated that dithane-M-45 have induced lower mutation frequency in the test system which is insignificant through 95% confidence intervals.
