Abstract

The incidence of four somatoscopic traits-tongue pigmentation, dental occlusion, digital formulae, toe formulae and leg folding were studied among the Adikarnatakas of Mysore city of Karnataka State. The data consists of 259 males and 221 females. Adikarnataka population shows higher proportion of tongue pigmentation in the males (38.99%) than in the females (9.95%) with highly significant sex difference. Moreover the spots are more common than patches in the form of tongue pigmentation. Normal type of dental occlusion is more common in both males (76.83%) and females (60.18%) of the present study. 2>4 type of digital formulae is more prevalent in male series (52.32%) as well as female series (49.55%) of Adikarnatakas. Further left hand of either sex shows more variation in the distribution of the trait with significant bilateral difference. 1>2 type of toe formulae is more prevalent in both the series (M : 41.12%, F : 59.50%) with significant sex difference. Either sex of the population shows more right leg folders than left leg folders with bisexual difference.
