In this study, epoxy is toughened with epoxy phenol cashew nut shell liquid (EPCNSL) and different weight percentages of glass mat have been reinforced into this matrix. Their tensile strength has been determined. The variation of tensile strength of both epoxy and epoxy phenol CNSL toughened epoxy with varying weight fractions of the glass mat are studied. The tensile strength increases with epoxy phenol CNSL content upto 20% (w/w) in the composites. EPCNSL toughened composites show good chemical resistance to some acids, alkalis, and solvents. The interfacial bonding between the reinforcement and the matrix has been studied for both these composites using the scanning electron microscope (SEM) technique.
