Abstract

A facile synthesis of solely dihydrobenzofuranols was achieved by irradiation of 2-alkoxy substituted benzophenones in acetonitrile. The antibacterial activities of the resulting compounds were studied against 12 human pathogens. All the compounds showed significant growth inhibition at concentration of 50 mu g/mL. The halogen substituted compounds were most active whereupon one of the compounds showed stronger inhibition towards all the strains than the antibitiocs bacitracin, ciprofloxacin and gentamicin.
