Bahmani rule provided a new dimension to the social and cultural institutions and activities of Deccan. The Bahmani rulers accorded a place of prominence to the Sufis both at Gulbarga and Bidar. The political and economic institutions of Bahmani Kingdom were largely based on the pattern of its north Indian predecessors but the social and cultural affairs revolved round the Sufis who enabled the mystics to gain an upper hand. The Bahmani rulers invited scholars, saints, architects and other eminent statesmen in order enrich the social, educational, cultural and economic foundations of Deccan. The Persian literature, art, architecture and culture had definite bearing on the Deccan. The architectural and artistic evidence suggests that both religious bonds and the long-standing commercial links between Persia and the Deccan provided important conduits for cultural traditions.
