Abstract

A new dipolarophile for the construction of the bioactive title compound, C\sb 18H\sb 18N\sb 2O, was synthesized by base-catalysed reaction of benzaldehyde with (4-methoxy\-phen\-yl)acetonitrile. The olefinic bond connecting the (4-methoxy\-phen\-yl)acetonitrile and the dimethyl\-amino\-phenyl groups has a \it Z geometry.
