Ever since the introduction of citation index in the 1960s by Eugene Garfield for assessing the impact of research publications and ranking of journals, citation databases have become major source for quantifying intellectual contributions of an individual or organizations. The citation databases such as Science Citation Index (SCI), Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) and Arts & Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI) collectively known as Web of Science (WoS)by Institute for Scientific Information (ISI)now owned by Thomson Reuters have provided librarians and policy makers a easy tools for indentifying an quantifying the significant research contributions of an individual or organizations in terms of citations. Until 2004 Web of Science was the only major multidisciplinary citation database which was extensively used by universities, research organizations and policy makers for tenure extensions, for research grants and funds across the globe (Yang & Meho, 2007).
