Higher education is one of the important constituents of human development and recognized as fundamental human rights. It plays and sustains economic growth by providing high knowledgeable skills, awareness of globalization, value of human beings, more of employment opportunities, self-reliance, decision making and need full of future living. The future belongs to India the largest vibrant democratic system in the world, teeming with opportunities. This article tries to discuss the present status of higher education in India and the recent trends in enrolment in Indian higher education. Further, the article discusses trends in finance of higher education in Karnataka.
