Abstract

Health is a fundamental human right and most important social goal. The right to health has been recognized a fundamental right under article 21. The protection of the health of the expectant mother and her children is of prime importance for building of a sound and healthy nation. In spite of this, the concept of maternal and child health was put into practice only recently (after 1900 in the West and after 1950 in India). Primary health centers covered all the essential elements of preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative primary healthcare. Indian public health standards (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India) enhances the facilities to upgrade the primary health centers to provide quality service for the rural people. Maternal and child health care is one among the elements of primary health centers. Components of maternal and child healthcare services are an integral part of the health services as is being done in the primary health centers. Government of India launched the National Rural Health Mission on 2005. To upgrade the primary health centers NRHM has been implementing more health medical facilities to reduce the problems of rural women. Keeping the above context in perspective, the present paper try to examine the factors that availability of health facilities and utilization of medical facilities in rural areas.
