Abstract

Reactive oxygen species (ROS), such as superoxide anion and hydroxyl radicals, can attack cellular biomolecules, such as DNA, lipids, and proteins, to cause many serious diseases. This article reports the synthesis of a series of new transition metal ion-pyridoxine (M-Py) complexes, Fe-Py, Cu-Py, Ni-Py, Pd-Py, Co-Py, and Mn-Py. The colored complexes have been characterized based on their molar conductances, magnetic moment, IR, UV-Visible, and mass spectral data. Antioxidant activities of Py and its metal complexes, as compared to the positive control (standard), butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), have been determined in vitro and discussed.
