The qualitative characterisitics and the hydrogeochemical classification of groundwater facies are attempted through conventional graphical representations or simple numerical procedures. Almost all varieties of informations can be obtained from a set of limited input by adopting micro- computer techniques. A simple utility oriented computer program- HYCH can be executed even through pocket/home- computers. The program performs the classification of groundwater using the criteria of Hill- Piper, Handa, Schoeller, Stuyfzand and USSL schemes. Parameters like permeability index, sodium absorption ratio, CaCO3- Saturation indices, chloro-alkaline indices and ionic strength of groundwater are computed in sequences. The mechanism controlling the groundwater chemistry is identified. The nature of saline intrusion or otherwise is also detected. The probable significance of the results are taken as output. The program will be useful for all those involved in routine hydrochemical studies.
