The World Trade Organization (WTO) plays a pivotal role in shaping global trade dynamics, and its influence extends to countries emerging from conflict, such as Afghanistan. This paper explores the potential of WTO membership in Afghanistan’s path toward sustaining peace through trade. It examines how trade liberalization, facilitated by the WTO, can serve as a tool for economic stabilization, foster regional cooperation, and contribute to long-term peacebuilding in post-conflict societies. By analyzing Afghanistan’s economic history, current trade policies, and the challenges posed by political instability, the study underscores the role of trade as a means to enhance economic resilience, create jobs, and promote socio-economic development. Furthermore, it delves into the specific provisions of the WTO, such as dispute resolution mechanisms and trade facilitation agreements, which could offer Afghanistan the framework needed to integrate into the global economy while mitigating the risks of economic dependency and political fragility. The paper concludes with policy recommendations for Afghanistan to leverage WTO membership as a means to foster peace, stability, and sustainable development, while highlighting the broader implications of global trade governance in fragile states.
