Seed samples of Azadirachta indica (Neem) collected from different agroclimatic regions in Karnataka, South India were analyzed to determine seed-borne and seed-transmitted pathogens. Four hundred seeds were tested in each sample by standard agar method and component plating method. Phomopsis azadirachtae, the causal agent of die-back was found to be both seed-borne and seed-transmitted in neem. P. azadirachtae, was detected in all the seed components and the pathogen incidence ranged from 0 to 60% in different seed samples. Effect of P. azadirachtae culture filtrate on neem seeds and seedlings was also studied. Other pathogenic species viz., Fusarium oxysporum was recorded only in the seed coat.
