Abstract
Seed, soil, and foliar applications of metalaxyl at the rate of 2.10, 2.62 g a.i./kg; 100, 150, 200 mg a.i./m(2) and 125, 250, 500 and 1000 ppm respectively protected the pearl millet crop from downy mildew for 30 days. Seeds harvested from the treated plants were free from fungicide residues. However 200mg a.i./m(2) treatment was phytotoxic by means of stunted growth and poor seed setting. At this concentration, residue analysis could not be carried out due to insufficient seeds. Follow up sprays on 25 day old plants raised from seed and soil treatments effectively controlled the disease and harvested seeds were free from fungicide residues.
