Abstract

The thermal imbalance in the equatorial E-region over Thumba is investigated by modelling this region for photoionization balance including the effects of electromagnetic drifts and/or metallic ions. The concentrations of the metallic ions and their loss rates have been estimated. A small valley observed in the experimental electron density profile at or around 110 km is attributed to the presence of equatorial electrojet current, and the valley parameter evaluated is found to be about 7 per cent.
