Abstract

Total attenuation cross sections of several sugars have been measured for Ba-133 photons in a narrow-beam geometry setup, by using a hyperpure germanium detector. The values are compared with the values calculated with the aid of a mixture rule based on Hubbell's data for the individual elements. Based on the measured values for different sugars, a set of mean mass attenuation coefficients for sugars is given for the energy region of interest.
