Abstract

The present study is a case study of Domestic Violence in Esfahan City (Iran). A total of 800 Iranian women (800) were randomly selected from Esfahan city from Iran. They were administered Inventory of Beliefs about Role of husband family. (Saunders, Lynch, Grayson, & Linz, 1987). The inventory measures role of husband family in 4 components: Aggression & violence in husband family, physical assault in husband family, any lack financial support in husband family, restricting relationship in husband family. The data was collected in one session by contacting individually each respondent in Esfahan cities. The data were subjected to Multi-vitiate Analysis of variance and following results were observed. The purpose of this study was to understand survey of intimate partner in Esfahan city, 834 of women invited for interview, 800 visuals (94%) participated in this study. Results: Including mild forms of abuse, 28.4%, 70% and 25% of women reported that they were subjected to physical, emotional and sexual abuse respectively at least once during their lives. This figure was 2%, 8.4% and 3.8% for moderate forms, and 0.5%, 1% and 2.2% for severe forms of abuse. Unemployment, low level of education, substance misuse, experience of violence in child hood having more children were rick factors for domestic violence. Conclusion: The study revealed a high prevalence, especially mild forms of domestic maltreatment in the sample population. The type and risk factors of domestic violence seems to be similar throughout the world irrespective of differences in cultural and religious backgrounds.
