Abstract

A systematic study of background gamma radiation using a 5.08 × 5.08 cm2 NaI(TI) crystal was made below 3 MeV at Mysore. Results show the presence of several monoenergetic gamma ray lines of which a few are common to the observations of others made in different parts of the world. Formation of deutrons in the atmosphere due to capture of slow neutrons by protons (water vapour) in the atmosphere is indicated.
