Abstract

Water quality Index based on Physico-chem. parameters of four lakes of Mysore was done during Dec. to May 2009. A total of 24 water samples were analyzed for 18 physico-chem. parameters. An important Index CCME WQI was applied to find out the suitability of water for protection of aquatic life in Hadhinaru, Kalale, Yennehole and Shetty kere lakes. The index ranges between a min. of 39 in Shetty Kere Lake and 59 in Hadhinaru Lake. Yennehole Lake and Shetty kere lakes were rated as poor where the water quality is almost always endangered, the conditions usually deviate from natural or desirable levels. Hadhinaru Lake and Kalale Lake have an index of 55 to 59 and are categorized as marginal where in water quality is frequently threatened and conditions often deviate from desirable levels.
