Abstract

Leadership styles followed in organizations has a close relationship with structure of the organization. Leaders will adopt different leadership styles based on various situations. This paper is based on “Tridimensional leadership effectiveness model” which on one hand focuses on basic, effective and ineffective leadership styles; and on the other hand maturity cycle of subordinates. The objective of the study was to analyze and compare the leadership styles adopted by leaders in organizations following mechanistic and organic structures. Analysis of the data reveals that there is no significant relationship between leadership style followed and structure of the organization and that leader adopt leadership styles based on the maturity level of the subordinates. Further, the style adaptability of leaders in mechanistic structure is more inclined towards ineffective leadership styles namely Autocrat, Missionary and Deserter; and the style adaptability of leaders in organic structure is a combination of leadership styles (both effective and ineffective styles) which is based on vivid situations and maturity level of followers.
