Abstract

A new, simple, accurate and rapid method is described for the determination of phenothiazines in pharmaceutical preparations. The method is based on the oxidation of these drugs by hexacyanoferrate (III) in sulphuric acid medium, the hexacyanoferrate (II) formed being titrated with cerium (IV) sulphate using ferroin as indicator. The proposed method was applied to the analysis of pharmaceutical preparations containing these drugs and the results obtained compared favourably with those obtained by the pharmacopoeial methods.
